The Safely in the Mountains partnership has been connecting the Slovenian Tourist Board, the Slovenia Outdoor Association, the Slovenian Mountaineering Association, the Slovenian Mountain Rescue Association, the Slovenian Mountain Guides Association, the Police, the Environmental Agency of the Republic of Slovenia, the Triglav National Park and the Julian Alps Community since the beginning of 2023. The partnership of professional organizations in the fields of tourism, safety and mountaineering encourages responsible and safe visits to Slovenian mountains and emphasizes that safety in the mountains begins before the first step - with good preparation, appropriate equipment and responsible decisions.

The beauty of the Slovenian mountains is famous far and wide and attracts an increasing number of hikers every year. The special feature of Slovenian mountains is that they are lower compared to mountains in other Alpine countries, which is why many people are misled by their altitude into going to our mountains completely unprepared. We notice that the number of hikers from foreign countries in the Slovenian mountains is increasing. In 2022, GRZS mountain rescuers intervened in 667 accidents in mountains and other difficult-to-access terrains, of which foreign hikers were involved in 371 accidents, which means in percentage terms that mountain rescuers rescued hikers from foreign countries in more than 55%. The most common cause of accidents among foreign hikers is inappropriate hiking equipment, so below we provide instructions for visiting the Slovenian mountains.

Snow fell in the highlands. Despite autumn, the conditions are completely wintry. Before the tour downhill, check the equipment and put new batteries in the avalanche woodpeckers. Keep in mind that the day is shorter and adjust the tour accordingly.
